Canvathon Africa Terms & Conditions

1. Eligibility & Selection

Canvathon Africa is open to eligible university, college and tertiary students and recent graduates in participating African countries.

Participants must provide accurate information.

Registration, virtual training or forming a team does not guarantee selection for the in-person hackathon. In-person spaces are limited and only selected participants or teams may attend.

2. Travel & Accommodation

Canvathon Africa does not provide participant travel or accommodation.

Participants are responsible for their own transportation, accommodation and personal expenses.

3. Business Briefs & Confidentiality

Participants may work on briefs from real businesses or organisations.

Information provided through these briefs must only be used for the hackathon. Confidential or commercially sensitive information must not be shared without permission.

4. Ownership of Hackathon Work

Original work created specifically for an assigned business brief may be transferred to and used by the relevant business or designated rights holder.

The business may use, edit, adapt, publish and commercially use the work without further permission or payment to the participant.

Participants will not be entitled to royalties, licence fees, revenue share, profit share, equity or future compensation from the use or success of the work or business.

Canva content and other third-party materials remain subject to their applicable licences.

5. Sharing & Portfolio Use

Participants may not publicly share, sell, reuse or publish final business deliverables, including in portfolios or on social media, without permission from the relevant business or rights holder.

6. No Cash Prize or Payment

There is no cash prize for Canvathon Africa.

Participation in the hackathon does not include monetary payment or compensation.

Participants may receive gifts, certificates, recognition or other non-cash prizes or opportunities as communicated by the organisers.

Participation does not create an employment, freelance or paid-service relationship with Canvathon Africa, Canva, the organisers or participating businesses.

7. Conduct & Event Media

Participants must behave respectfully and must not cheat, plagiarise, harass others, misuse another person's work or misuse event platforms.

Canvathon Africa activities may be photographed, filmed, recorded or livestreamed. Additional consent will be requested where legally required.

8. Programme Changes & Removal

The organisers may make reasonable changes to programme activities, dates, venues, business briefs, speakers or selection processes where necessary.

Participants may be removed for false information, serious misconduct, cheating, plagiarism, misuse of intellectual property, disclosure of confidential information or breach of these Terms.
